with Brett Harriman

&
October 2 (Tue), 2012 — SOLD OUT!

Plan your trip to Salzburg to do "The Sound of Music" tour with travel writer Brett Harriman.

YOUR GUIDE, Brett Harriman, will escort you to the charmingly scenic and captivating sites the Hollywood film scouts discovered in 1963 that set the backdrop for director Robert Wise to shoot, arguably, the most popular musical film of all time, “The Sound of Music.”

(FOR A VISUAL on some of the sights and sounds to expect on this tour, view Harriman's two-part Sound of Music video series.)

This SOM part 1 video now has more than 1,000,000 views!

ON THIS comprehensive tour you will learn many things, among them the real history of the von Trapps: where Georg and Maria really got married; how the family really escaped from Nazi-occupied Austria; where they landed, and re-landed; how long the von Trapps were detained at Ellis Island, New York; and where they eventually settled.

BESIDES AN enjoyable walking tour through Salzburg's historic Old Town and across the Salt River into the New Town, your sightseeing odyssey will seat you on a luxury bus (coach) journeying into the majestic lake district outside Salzburg. The lake region, locally known as the Salzkammergut, is so breathtaking that it is arguably the most beautiful in Austria; a must-see for every visitor to this corner of Europe. Featured locations on Harriman's tour are Lake Fuschl (world headquarters of the caffeine-rich energy drink and billion-dollar brand, Red Bull); Lake Wolfgang (birthplace of Mozart's mother, Anna Maria Walburga Pertl); and Moon Lake, an alpine dream made even more heavenly by its Baroque church in which Hollywood married Maria and the Captain. Moreover, Austria's Romantic Road is routed through this slice of the Salzkammergut and you will be witness to its grandeur.

ON THIS exclusive tour, Harriman's goal is to give you a memorable time that you can treasure and share with family and friends, forever.

(See Comments at the bottom of the page and feel free to add one of your own!)

TOUR DETAILS and price: The tour will be approximately 6.5 hours, beginning at 10:00 and finishing about 16:30 on both the abovelisted tour dates for 2012. Around noon there will be a 30-minute break to pick up a snack for lunch. (Harriman will notify you of, and point you to, your culinary options.) The price for this exclusive tour is only 50 euro (50€) per adult. (The price includes your tour guide and seat on the bus understandably, the price does not include personal expenses like food, drink, souvenirs, etc.) Considering that the commercial SOM tour companies in Salzburg charge between 37€ and 40€ per adult for a 4-hour tour that only includes the bus leg of the tour (on which you are not shown many of the must-see sites and simply driven past many more), Harriman's SOM tour includes the bus leg as well as a walking tour through Salzburg so you don't just hear about the Old Town scenes in the movie you actually see where they were filmed or portrayed; for example, the abbey, cemetery, festival halls, Residenzplatz, and so on. All told, Harriman's tour is longer (thus more educational), more personal, and cheaper (when considering the euro to hour ratio) than what the local tour companies offer. So, why not join Harriman in Austria and help him keep the hills alive with music?

NOTE: Wear comfy shoes; you have a fair bit of walking to do, enough to work off a super-sized strudel.
